TryRims shows you how a set of wheels might look on a photo of your own car. This page explains what we collect, why we hold it, who else touches it, and how to get it deleted. It covers the TryRims app for Android, the TryRims app for iOS, and the website at tryrims.app.
Who we are
TryRims is built and run by Oleg Sharov, an individual developer in Ukraine. He is the data controller for everything described here. You can reach him at theolh@gmail.com.
What we collect
- An account identifier. The app signs you in anonymously on first launch — a random Firebase user ID with no name or email attached. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we also store the name and email address those give us. Sign in with Apple can hand us a private relay address (…@privaterelay.appleid.com) instead of your real one; that works fine, and we never see the real address.
- A hashed install identifier. A one-way hash of a device-provided id. We use it for one thing only: so that a single installation cannot claim the same starting credits over and over. It is not an advertising identifier, and it cannot be reversed to identify a device.
- Your images. Car photos, wheel photos, the renders we produce from them, and their thumbnails. On Android, a photo you import is uploaded when you import it, not only when you render.
- Your feedback. The thumbs-up or thumbs-down you give a render.
- Purchases. Which pack you bought, and the order or transaction id from Google Play or the App Store. We never see your card number or your billing address — the store takes the payment and only tells us that it succeeded.
- Basic usage events, Android only. Through Firebase Analytics: which screens were opened, and when a render started and finished. The iOS app has no analytics at all — it contains no analytics SDK and sends no events.
How we use it
- To run the app and produce the render you asked for.
- To store your fits so they open on every device you sign in on.
- To keep your balance correct and to credit a purchase to the right account.
- To answer you when you contact support.
- To spot and stop abuse — mainly people farming starting credits.
- To meet legal obligations, such as keeping a record of what was sold.
We show no ads, we carry no ad SDKs, and we do not sell your data.
Improving the model — only if you say yes
We can use your car photos, wheel photos, renders and votes to improve the model that does the fitting, but only if you turn on "I want to help improve TryRims" in the app's Profile.
It is off unless you turn it on. Nothing is pre-ticked, and we ask at most once. Turning it off takes effect immediately and covers everything you have ever sent us, not only what comes after — nothing we already hold stays in use. Nothing you send is published, shown to other users, or given to anyone else.
Who can see your photos
Our staff may open one of your images when you contact us about a render, or when we are investigating a fault. Nobody else looks at them.
Who processes data for us
- Google — Firebase authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and, on Android, Analytics.
- Modal — runs the GPUs that produce a render.
- Apple and Google Play — payments and sign-in.
They act on our instructions. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for anyone else's own purposes.
Where it is stored
On Google Cloud, primarily in the United States.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. Deleting your account deletes your photos, your renders and your fits.
Two things survive on purpose:
- Purchase records, because tax and accounting law require us to keep them.
- A marker recording that this identity already claimed its starting credits, so that deleting and re-registering cannot be used to claim them again.
Neither of them contains a photo.
If you never sign in
Your data is stored on our servers under that random anonymous id — not only on your phone. It is real data, and it is ours to delete. But nothing links that id to you, so if you reinstall the app or change phone, you cannot get back to it, and neither can we.
Deleting an anonymous account from inside the app is not available yet. Email theolh@gmail.com and we will delete it if you can identify the account. Signing in with Google or Apple is what makes a garage recoverable.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, to correct it, to erase it, to restrict what we do with it, to hand it over in a portable form, or to stop processing it. You can withdraw your consent at any time — the "help improve TryRims" switch in Profile does exactly that, on its own, with immediate effect.
To use any of these rights: delete your account in the app under Profile → Delete account, or email theolh@gmail.com. We answer within 30 days.
To be straight with you: we have not appointed an EU representative under Article 27 of the GDPR yet. Write to the address above in the meantime. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
TryRims is intended for an adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
